The 2 major trends that I perceived as important within the coming years are Engagement and Problem-Based Learning.
Engagement - research on current engagement methods for different based on the methods of instructions. “The apex of curriculum and instruction that actively engages learners by attacking real-world problems and building solutions, fostering intrinsic motivation and collaborating with peers presents a new horizon in instructional innovation.” Article shared from my partner Laura. With conjunction of the previous statement and problem-based learning their is a higher success rate in individuals retaining knowledge.
Problem-Based Learning – increased content knowledge through problem solving theories.
Identify the basic skills that you want the student to learning
Find the right problems for the students to be able solve with the basic skills they have acquired
Explain the Problem-Based Learning process including the reason in the class room
Solve problems as a group
Allow the group to help each other
Allow for diversity in the way student groups present the solution.
Have students evaluate each other.
To prepare for these trends I would ensure that the content available will meet the expectations that I have for the students. I would ensure that I set expectations in the first class to foster conversation and problem solving learning from each other.
